Experience and Training

Clinical Training and Experience:

My training as a clinical psychologist has provided me with an extensive understanding of the factors that influence human functioning. The way you think, the way you feel, your biology, your behavior, and your social history are all important aspects of your life. I am trained in a range of therapeutic approaches, diagnostic strategies, and assessment techniques, and I personalize my approach to serve the individual needs of my clients. I have experience with individuals and couples as well as group psychotherapy, and am trained in psychological testing and assessment. My couples therapy background includes Level 1 Gottman Relationship Institute certification, and I use Gottman therapy methods in my work. My clinical training includes internships and fellowships at the following:

  • The University of Maryland School of Medicine

  • Parents’ and Children’s Services (Boston)

  • Emerson College

  • Brigham and Women’s Hospital / the Southern Jamaica Plain Health Center

  • Harvard University

I have served at the national level in the American Psychological Association. I chaired a national committee serving the needs of early career psychologists through the APA’s Division of Psychotherapy. I also served as Program Chair for two APA national conventions for the Division of Psychologists in Independent Practice, and I was a contributing editor for the APA’s Psychotherapy Bulletin for several years. I served as a web committee member for the Division of Psychologists in Independent Practice and was a moderator for the Division’s online forum for psychologists around the country. I was also an elected member of the Board of Directors for the Division of Psychologists in Independent Practice. I am a coauthor of the 2005 edition of Our Bodies, Ourselves, for which I also served as an expert reviewer. I have also written two books about children and teens, and have published book chapters and articles for and about psychologists through national journals and the Oxford University Press.
